This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a limited range of laboratory operations within the civil construction industry and will give you the knowledge and skills to collect routine site samples, prepare soil samples for testing and test construction materials.
Laboratory technicians perform stratightforward laboratory work. They follow set procedures and recipes, and apply well developed technical skills and basic scientific knowledge. They generally work inside a laboratory but may also perform technical tasks in the field or within production plants. They may also perform a range of laboratory maintenance and office tasks.

The Certificate 3 Guarantee supports eligible individuals to complete their first post-school certificate III qualification. It also supports school students to access training and Queensland's Year 12 graduates to transition to employment by providing fee-free training in high priority qualifications.
You may be eligible for funding under the Queensland Government User Choice program to undertake a traineeship through your employer with Gold Training in this qualification. Student contribution fees under the User choice program in 2017-20 are calculated at $1.60 per nominal hour for each unit of competency/module and are calculated at the commencement of the unit of competency/module. Student contribution fees payable for this qualification are approximately $960.00.
